Patron Silver is called young or joven tequila. A similarity may be made to a young or nouvelle wine. It is known for its lite, fresh, crystal clear look and an elegant smoothness not found in other silver tequilas. Many prefer this smooth soft and lite tequila over an aged and slightly oaky flavor. Those that know the difference may find Patron Silver the finest silver tequila available. History

Pernod

Main article: Pernod Fils

1797 – Henri-Louis Pernod opened his first absinthe distillery in Switzerland.

1805 Maison Pernod Fils (simply known as Pernod Fils) was founded in Pontarlier, Franche-Comt in eastern France by Henri-Louis Pernod, a French distiller of Francophone Swiss origin, and started the production of the anise-flavored liquor known as absinthe.

1850 – Henri-Louis Pernod died.

1871 Distillerie Hmard was founded near Paris.

1872 Socit Pernod Pre & Fils opened in Avignon.

1915 Production and consumption of absinthe was prohibited in France. Most companies looked for alternatives and begin producing pastis instead.

1926 All 3 distilleries merged to form Les tablissements Pernod.

1951 Pastis 51, was launched.

1965 Takeover of Distillerie Rousseau, Laurens et Moureaux, producer of the Suze liquor since 1889.

Ricard

1932 Ricard which soon became France’s favourite long drink, was founded in Marseille by Paul Ricard.

1940 Production of pastis was prohibited by the Vichy regime.

1944 Production of pastis became legal again.

1968 Paul Ricard retired, his son Patrick became CEO in 1978.

Fun Facts About The Arizona Biltmore
Opened in 1929, the renowned Arizona Biltmore was owned for over 40 years by the Wrigley family of chewing-gum fame and fortune. Long a playground for the rich and famous, the Arizona Biltmore has wined and dined generations of celebrities, politicians and presidents, but fortunately, you dont need to be part of the glitterati to enjoy a stay at the Arizona Biltmore. In fact, guests visiting Paradise Valley, Phoenix or Scottsdale, Arizona often need a home away from home and the historic Arizona Biltmore has long been a destination of choice for discriminating visitors or those visiting the Valley while looking to purchase Phoenix homes and real estate.

Here are a few fun facts relating to this legendary Phoenix landmark.

Hollywood Honeymooners: A number of well-known couples have spent their honeymoon at the Arizona Biltmore including Ronald and Nancy Reagan and Clark Gable and Carole Lombard. One story goes that a frantic Clark Gable lost his wedding ring on the golf course only to have it returned by an eagle-eyed employee.

Marilyn Monroe: The Catalina Pool was Marilyns favorite and when in town, she could frequently be seen lounging by the water. The pool takes its name from the colorful tiles used in its construction, which were from Catalina Island off the coast of Los Angeles (the island, like the Biltmore, was owned by chewing-gum magnate William Wrigley, Jr.).

Irving Berlin: In 1939, song-writing maestro Irving Berlin soaked up enough inspiration, in the warm Arizona sun no less, to pen his famed White Christmas while staying at the Biltmore.

Impromptu Concert: In 1988, an impromptu late-night concert at the piano bar was conducted by none other than Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Liza Minelli.

Tequila Sunrise: Circa 1940, a guest asked the Biltmores bartender to create a refreshing beverage for him to enjoy poolside using his preferred spirit, tequila. The resulting concoction became known as the Tequila Sunrise, a now-iconic cocktail made famous in songs, movies and American pop culture.

Prohibition: During Prohibition, the McArthur brothers, the original owners and builders of the resort, found an inventive way to keep their guests happy: a liquor cabinet that conveniently converted to a bookcase in case of a raid. In the Mens Smoker, referred to as the mystery room during Prohibition, guests could purchase a set-up which included a glass, ice and mixers for bootleg liquor. Some of the influential guests during these times were heavy gamblers and bookies who would commandeer the phone lines at certain times of the day. Although betting was illegal, card games were popular and prevalent. Employees who stayed after work to serve players often were treated to winnings.

Taj Mahal: The lobby of the Arizona Biltmore boasts the worlds second-largest gold-leaf ceiling; the largest is in the Taj Mahal in India.

What many people do not even realize is Tequila is actually a town in Mexico. Santiago de Tequila, as it is officially known, is located in the Mexican State of Jalisco, in the central western part of the country. It is this area that the blue agave plant the plant required to make the discount liquors called Tequila is found naturally.

However, regardless of whether it’s created right there in the tiny city of Tequila, or some place outside the State of Jalisco, it is unarguable that there are only five types of Tequila:

Tequila Blanco, also known as “White” or “Silver” Tequila is usually bottled immediately after it is distilled. This is usually the cheapest tequila that you would find at a discount liquor store. If not distilled immediately, Tequila Blanco is aged at the most two months, typically in stainless steel or neutral oak barrels. The flavor of Tequila Blanco is very strong in relation to the agave that is used.

Tequila Joven, also known as “Oro” or “Gold” Tequila, is practically just silver tequila with caramel or food coloring being added. Like Tequila Blanco, Tequila Joven is bottled almost immediately after being distilled; however unlike the “White,” Tequila Blanco has colorants and flavorings added to it. Tequila Joven can also be a blend of a silver tequila with an aged or extra-aged tequila. The most popular Tequila Joven in the United States currently is Jose Cuervo Gold.

Tequila Reposado, also known as “rested” or “aged” Tequila, remains in wood containers between two months and a year (This is a requirement validated by the Mexican government). The type of barrel used is dependent on the distiller, though they are commonly made from oak. The finished Tquila Reposado product is dramatically affected by the material the barrel is made of, as well as tannins and resins exuded.

Tequila Anejo, also known as “Extra-Aged” or “Vintage” Tequila, is aged in an oak barrel for a minimum of a year, but cannot be aged for more than three. Similar to the age-requirement for Tequila Reposado, the ageing for an Extra-Aged Tequila is a requirement of the Mexican government. The year-long aging process typiclally produces a smoother taste, and often the aging will take place in former whiskey or cognac barrels. While their flavors are more refined, their color is darker, and their level of alcohol is adjusted.

The final type is Tequila Extra Anejo, which can also be known as “Ultra-Aged” Tequila. This style wasn’t established until the early part of 2006. It is the only kind of Tequila type that has no maximum age limit, though the minimum is three years, making it the longest-time-to-create Tequila. If you’re looking for discount liquors, this is not the spirit you’re looking for.
