How To Throw A Hawaiian Or Beach Themed Party
Hawaiian or beach-themed parties are popular at any time of year – whether in the dead of winter, the middle of summer, or anytime in between. Many people love to throw beach themed parties because, while they’re fairly easy to arrange, they set an atmosphere that guests truly enjoy: one of warmth, sunshine, and the beach.
Every successful beach-themed party starts with great beach decorations. Make your venue look like a tropical paradise with props of all kinds – ranging from beach towels and beach balls to seashells and umbrellas. You can even cut out palm trees and sails from large pieces of cardboard to add to the atmosphere. If you really want to go all out – and if you have the appropriate space for it (for example, a basement with plain cement flooring) you can empty bags of play sand to make a beach. Just remember that you’ll need a powerful vacuum to clean it up the next day! You might also consider filling up a kiddy pool with sand to create an indoor sandbox. If you have any beach gear – such as surfboards or beach chairs – set them out as part of the décor.
Next, create a playlist of summery songs – ranging from the Beach Boys and Jimmy Buffet to Hawaiian music. Music is a big part of setting the atmosphere to a party, so it’ll really pay off to come up with a great set of songs. You might also consider asking your guests to send in song requests at the time they RSVP for the party, to ensure you end up playing music that everyone loves.
Of course, every beach party should come complete with summery treats. Serve foods like hotdogs, ice cream, and slushies, and choose tropical drinks – like pina coladas – for the adults. It might also be fun to serve your drinks out of sand buckets or other beach toys, along with a straw and mini umbrella.
Finally, encourage all of your party guests to come in beach fancy dress, and consider giving them some suggestions with the invite. Some popular choices for beach attire include hula skirts and Hawaiian sets, scuba or snorkelling outfits, summer tourist attire, or novelty fancy dress, such as the famous “shark attack” costume. However, guests can also come in their bikinis or board shorts, along with sandals. Following just a few simple tips such as these will help ensure your beach themed party is a success for both you and your guests.
